On March 12, 2023, Mr. Mi Xiong, the General Manager of Religion Department of NetDragon Websoft Inc., led team members to pay an official visit to Most Ven. Prof. Dr. Phra Brahmpundit in Thailand to discuss about utilising metaverse technology to promote Buddhism culture around the world during the United Nations Vesak Day.

As the former President of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU) in Thailand, Most Ven. Prof. Dr. Phra Brahmpundit now is the President of the International Council of the United Nations Vesak Day, the President of the International Association of Buddhist Universities (IABU), and a member of the Supreme Sangha Committee of Thailand. He holds a pivotal position in the international Buddhist community, and is also a significant partner of the NetDragon Religion Department for many years.

With the consent of Most Ven. Prof. Dr. Phra Brahmpundit, the NetDragon Religion Department will create a special metauniverse for the United Nations Vesak Day, providing global believers a virtual celebration space for Vesak Day not limited by time and space, participating in conferences, communicating with each other, and learning about Buddhist knowledge in the metauniverse world, bringing a new experience mode for Buddhism.

Regarding the digital Buddhism application case, Mr. Mi Xiong had an in-depth communication with Most Ven. Prof. Dr. Phra Brahmpundit, and presented Fo Guang Shan Metaverse, which was the first 3D metauniverse in the Buddhist world jointly developed by Fo Guang Shan and NetDragon Religion Department.

In fact, as early as in 2019, the Religion Department of NetDragon had started to establish the "International Buddhist Alliance Platform" for the International Buddhist School of Mahachulalongkorn University in Thailand, and jointly built a Buddhist resource library, in order to form a Buddhist education ecosystem from software to smart classrooms, resource libraries, and cloud computing.

This visit not only introduced new modes of technology for Dharma promotion, but also enabled the Religion Department to have a deeper understanding of Buddhist education.

As a loyal participant of the United Nations Vesak Day, the efforts of Mr. Mi Xiong and his team in the field of digital Buddhism speaks for itself. In the future, NetDragon Religion Department will continue to explore and innovate, and hopefully more technology companies can join the cause of promoting Dharma, so that digital technology can better empower Buddhist knowledge learning.
